Conceptual pencil PortraitIn this image, I’ve captured my dear friend, and fellow musician, Australian jazz icon, Willie Qua in his Acubra. He looked so much like a farmer, I removed him from the lush Gold Coast setting of the day’s gig and put him in a more barren terrain that reflected the much publicized drought. Toying with the idea of “...Operator? Information…get me Jesus on the line…” I wanted to set the concept of this piece against the current backdrop of the constant call to Prayer for Rain. The phone Willie holds carries the phrase “calling Mark 11:24pm” which is a scripture reference. The p.m. referring to the closing out of the current ‘day of drought’. “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe you have received it, and you shall have it” 888 the biblical number for the resurrected Jesus 53787 the number dialed to spell Jesus.
